DND: How it works

DND: How it works
Nowadays new rule has been applied for all the service provider .As, for now onward we will be allowed to send only 100 sms per day and I think its not enough for you.

  1. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has imposed the restriction of 100  SMS per day SIM from  27.09.11 to prevent pesky marketing AMA. Now they have excluded the service providers, DTH operators, e-ticketing agencies, social networking sites and directory service agencies from the limit. This would let these providers to serve the people without any problem. So, finally a sigh of relief as beginning Sept 27, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has given cellphone users in the country freedom from the deluge of pesky calls and SMSes selling weight loss solutions to MBA programmes to travel packages to anything and everything. With these, Trai has also imposed a 100 SMS per day limit on individual customers.

  2. However, in case you are still grappling with all those unsolicited SMSes or calls, here's how to go about it. To get started, subscribers need to register themselves with the National Customer Preference Registry, earlier known as " National Do Not Call Registry", by dialing the toll free number 1909.
  3. Subscribers can also send an SMS saying 'START DND' to 1909 or log on to website 'www.nccptrai.gov.in' to register themselves and follow the instructions given.
  4. As for those subscribers who wish to receive all those commercial SMSes and calls they can SMS 'STOP DND' to 1909.
  5. The service also has two options to choose from -- 'Fully Blocked' or 'Partially Blocked' category. The first option puts a blanket ban on any commercial SMSes or calls. In the second, you can receive few SMSes like your important bank updates or traffic alerts, or the category you choose. The Partially Blocked category has identified eight options -- banking and financial products, real estate, education, health, consumer goods, automobiles, communication and entertainment, tourism and leisure -- for the users to choose from. If you register for the first option you will not receive any commercial communication.
  6. In case, you continue to receive spam, you can alert your telecom service provider. According to the new regulations, telemarketers targetting users who have opted for DND  will face penalty starting from Rs 25,000 for the first offense and rising up to Rs 2,50,000 for the sixth offense. Post that the telemarketer will be blacklisted from receiving telecom services for two years.
  7. The customers can send more than 100 SMS / day per SIM on the blackout days such as New Year, Pongal, Diwali and Christmas. The customers could choose Partially Blocked DND category, where they will receive SMS in select categories or Fully Blocked (SMS ‘START 0′ to 1909 ) DND category. All the commercial SMS will not be allowed from 9pm to 9am even for the customers in the Partially Blocked category.
